• Welcome to St. Columbkille's Catholic Church Rutherglen

    • Welcome to our parish website which we hope you will find to be informative about our church and the life of our parish community.

    • HISTORY

    • The present church building was opened in 1940 to replace the first St Columbkille's Church which was founded on the same site in 1851.

    • Our Parish Vision

    • We aspire to be a welcoming and faithful Eucharistic community, serving the Lord, spreading the truth of his Gospel, and helping all to respond to God's Universal call to holiness, in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit.

Children’s Liturgy Group

At 10.30am Mass on Sundays, during school terms, we provide a Children’s Liturgy service.  This enables children of primary school age to leave the church after the entrance procession and return after the Offertory Procession.  They are accompanied by adults to the Parish House Meeting Room where they say prayers and learn about the Mass Readings at a level which is suitable to their age. The children explore the message of the Gospel and engage in an activity that is relevant to that Sunday’s readings.

We try to have a Children’s Mass each month, with children doing the readings and saying the bidding payers, having been prepared by the adult volunteers.  Our volunteers commit to helping out one Sunday in four at the 10.30am Sunday Mass.  We also meet annually with Fr Pat to review our work and to plan for the year ahead.

We are always looking to welcome new volunteers to our group. To find out more about our work, please  email Irene Lochrin  ilochrin@gmail.com or stcolumbkille@btconnect.com
