26th Ordinary Sunday

Deacon Bill’s Gospel Reflection for the 26th Sunday in Ordinary Time in Year C:

The gulf between the rich and the poor is growing ever wider. So wide that the poor cannot by themselves bridge this yawning chasm without the help of others. There are many in our world who show mercy to those less fortunate than themselves; but equally there are many more who choose not to see those on the other side of the bridge.

But all of us can do something to help; and even if we cannot fully meet the needs of others we can alert others who have the means or the capacity to help. We can also listen to them or at least we can be with them in their need. Crossing the gulf is what matters, and importantly it is the person who observes the need who is called to take the first step.
