Receiving Holy Communion at Mass

It is important that, when we receive the Eucharist at Mass, we do so with reverence and decorum.  To avoid this, please observe the following points:

  • You should receive the Sacred Host on the tongue or upon ‘throned’ hands (left placed upon the right, with nothing else held in the hands).
  • If your are unable to present two hands, please receive the Sacred Host on your tongue.
  • The Sacred Host must be consumed at the Altar before moving away.
  • Those receiving the Precious Blood are reminded that they should bow when approaching, then take a sip from the Chalice and hand the Chalice back carefully to the Eucharistic Minister.
