3rd Sunday in Advent

Deacon Bill’s Gospel Reflection  for the 3rd Sunday in Advent (Year B)

We are called to make a straight way for the Lord! In other words to keep an open path, without bends of distractions to slow Jesus down from entering our hearts. Jesus, ever-present in our lives, enters into our hearts in the silence of prayer provided we do not resist him by hiding behind those distractions. If we earnestly listen to his words in scripture, his words will come alive; questioning and enlightening our minds; challenging and testing our wills; moving and inspiring our hearts. Advent calls on us to straighten up our path of life to allow easy access for Jesus to work on those patches of darkness within us in order for us to recognise the light of Christ when he comes to us at Christmas.
